3 Ways to Big Bear !

How many ways do you know to get to Big Bear? Most people are aware of HWY 330/18 “the front way” from San Bernardino through Running Springs and do not realize that there are a total of 3 ways into Big Bear. When all three routes are open, the “front way” is the fastest route into the valley, although during busy times it can become more congested. Hwy 38 from Redlands is a bit longer however; it is a great alternate route and will often save time when leaving the valley. Travelers coming from the High Desert area prefer HWY 18. This route is often less impacted during snowy weather.

When traveling to the Big Bear there are 3 routes to choose from:

  1. State Hwy 330 / Hwy 18 through Running Springs is the fastest and easiest route, however, it can get congested on weekends and busy holidays.
  2. Highway 38 through Redlands is a bit longer, but is the most scenic and often has less traffic than Hwy 330 / Hwy 18.
  3. Finally there is Highway 18 through the Lucerne Valley, which gets less snowfall during storms and has the least amount of mountain driving.

It is a good idea to choose your route depending on weather conditions and day of the week, and remember to always carry chains in your vehicle when traveling in the mountains.
