Bear Mountain was the first resort in the world to devote an entire mountain to freestyle terrain. Over the course of a season, Bear Mountain constructs in excess of 150 snow features including jumps of all shapes and sizes. In Southern California, where natural snowfall is often in short supply, it takes one of the largest snowmaking systems in the world and thousands of hours in operation to cover 198 acres with this intricate terrain park system.

At prime humidity levels of less than 10 percent and temperatures in the low Fahrenheit teens, Bear Mountain’s snowmaking system can convert 7,000 gallons of water per-minute into snow. An average of 3-5 feet of snow can be made on 100 percent of the developed terrain each season. Bear Mountain has a plentiful water supply from Big Bear Lake for snowmaking that does not interfere with Big Bear’s domestic water usage, which is drawn from wells. Approximately two to three inches of water is taken off the top of the lake each season for Bear Mountain’s snowmaking of which 60 percent returns through natural runoff.
