The Olympics are over and now everyone’s wondering who Big Bear’s next Shaun White will be. Animal is quite the claim to fame, but we can’t stop with him, we have to keep this legacy going. Well, we actually have a couple prodigies in the mix right here at Bear Mtn. I took some laps with Grom shreds Maddie and Cameron Mastro this morning, and being a person that is hard to impress, I was blown away! Maddie and Cameron, age 10 and 12, sponsors: Dakine, Powder & Son, Oakley, Mimi’s Cookie Bar, and Maddie on Roxy, ride with more confidence then most pros making the big bucks. While some will sit a feature and twiddle their thumbs, they just drop, tuck, and send it; the way it’s supposed to be. At this ripe young age, it’s not about image and gimmicks, it’s about the love of snowboarding; something I pose extreme envy for. I am really excited to see these kids grow up and push the sport. Girls’ snowboarding really needs someone to take it to the next level and I think they found their new representative…
