What’s up everyone?! As you all should know by now, there’s going to be a ski comp in a matter of hours. It’s said to start at 1: oo p.m., with practice beginning at noon. If you’ve been by The Scene, you already know it’s going to be a sick contest. There’s some crazy looking features that you wouldn’t expect to see at Bear. From a snowboarder’s perspective, we call them “skier features”. As hard as it is to say, skiers go bigger then snowboarders, so they need bigger features. We give a lot of attention to the new wave of snowboarders, but we still love our skiers. It’s definitely going to be a fun event to watch; it’s always fun to check out something new. We haven’t hosted a ski comp in a while, but we’re stoked to be apart of the sport!

As you all know, we’ve had one heck of a year in terms of snow. We already have 10-11 feet of natural snow this season! That’s insane! It’s making for amazing spring time conditions and some really solid jumping. The natural snow makes for perfect building substance. We can make the lips wider and taller, the decks a little longer, and some nice steep landings. I’m out there everyday taking pics, and it’s really fun to watch everyone take advantage of all our sick jumps. I’m starting to see more and more people hit the top one; and a lot of you are really progressing. Gambler has been getting a lot of love as well. Being my favorite jump in the park, it’s exciting to see everyone enjoy it as much as I do. Keep up all the hard work; everyone here is stoked.

How’s everyone doing on this fine Wednesday afternoon? Looks like the sun is playing some games with us today. It was bright early, some clouds rolled over for a minute, and now it’s sunny again; it’s fixing to be another great day in Big Bear though. I took some runs early this morning, and boy, the snow is something else! It feels really good to be able to hold an edge in March. The snow usually starts heating up this time of the season, but not this year folks. We’re going to be finishing out the season with some amazing conditions… but we won’t have to think about that for a long while!

Focusing in on the “20 Years Of Park Development” marketing concept this year, we set out to create a print ad campaign that would showcase four of our pro team riders and highlight four main themes: innovation, creativity, style and history. For the forth and final ad in this series and the one representing history, we chose a sunset shot of Chris Bradshaw taken during the filming of Big Bear Mountain Resort’s 20th anniversary documentary, Parkumentary. Snow Summit’s Tex Hip was rebuilt for the first time in seven years and he nailed a method on it during this special team shoot. In this ad, Bradshaw adds his image to a museum filled with important pieces of Bear Mountain and Snow Summit’s illustrious past that represents 20 years of building some of the best terrain parks in the business. To see these ads in all of their glory, pick up copies of Transworld Snowboarding Magazine and/or Snowboarder Magazine.

Hello all my beautiful Big Bear friends!! Has everyone been enjoying themselves?! I’d sure hope so; the park is amazing and the lift lines are practically non-existent. The runs are wide open giving you the perfect environment to work on all your new moves. We pay a lot of attention to our pro riders and visiting pros, but all of our beginner friends are just as important. We want YOU to be our next local pro and there’s no better time to practice than now. Our features are designed to help you progress. As soon as you master one, there’s going to be another staring you right in the eye. Not only is the park in tip top shape, but our record snow fall this year is making for unreal spring time conditions. We’re riding January snow in March weather. I’d say it’s like a little peace of Heaven, right here in Big Bear, California!

If you’ve been up recently, you’ve seen the park at its prime. Park staff has been working hard to make the set up as close to perfection as possible. If you haven’t been here in a while, take a quick lap with me. We’ll start at the top of 9 and wok our way down…

First, we’re going to drop in on the first wedge at the top. It’s got about a 25 foot deck, with a poppy lip and steep landing. Next, we’re going to hit the dog house, followed by either the trap rail or corrugated tube. Once we show off our moves up top, we bomb our way through the roller section. We’ll be on a little flat section after the rollers where we can hit Simon’s box, a flat box, a large tube, and another little dog house. Now, we have to choose between Powder Bowl and Park Run. Powder Bowl has a lot to offer. There’s a hip, a jump, a spine, a pole jam, a bowl shaped QP, a wall ride, another hip, and the van; all followed by the Gambler line. This is definitely the route for all you jumpers out there. The Park run route is going to entertain us with multiple beginner boxes, little jumps, a couple flat rails, a rainbow rail, a step up jump, an up box, the space ship, Seth’s feature, and a stall. If you still have some energy, follow me to the shotgun rail, followed by the kink rail, and into the QP. We’re almost to the bottom, but we still have some more shredding to do. Again, we have two options, rails or jumps. The jump line consists of a pole jam or a flat-down rail, into three really fun little jumps. The rail line consists of the donkey rail, followed by the creeper, and into the c-rail.

That was quite the work out, huh? My legs are beat! There’s so much to do and to choose from; we need to get back up there and try a different line. Don’t forget to check out the pipe on chair 5 either. It’s looking awesome and it’s been getting a lot of love as well.

Burton’s Ladies team including riders; Kelly Clark, Hannah Teter, Spencer O’brien, Ellery Hollingsworth, Linn Haug, Shelly Gottlieb, Yuki Furihata, Rana Okada and Maddy Shaffrick made their way to Bear to strut their stuff for an annual shoot. Today the girls rode a special made quarter pipe for extreme boosting and a pole jam chain link feature. We were sure to stand by to get some good shots of our own, so be sure to check them out in our daily photos! We would like to give a huge thanks to the Burton Ladies Team manager Susie Floros and her hard working girls for a visit Bear Mountain will remember! Be sure to check out Susie’s blog on Burton’s site, featuring fun pictures and videos from their trip to sunny So Cal!
