The largest spectator event for snowboarding on the West Coast is about to get a whole lot bigger. On Saturday September 18^th, 2010 the Southern California winter season gets a head start with the 7^th annual Hot Dawgz & Hand Rails being held at Bear Mountain Resort. Now those shreds who can’t be among the thousands trekking to Big Bear to watch the jib show and partake in the Screamin’ Deal Season Pass sale can still experience it all online at Snowboardermag.com. Starting at 2:30pm (PST) Snowboarder Sr. Editor Tom “T-Bird” Monterosso will join Eddie Wall in hosting all of the action on a monitor near you. Forest Bailey, Johnny Lazzereschi, Jess Kimura, Desiree Melancon, Raewyn Reid, Ryan Paul, Zak Hale and Jake Kuzyk are just a few of the riders battling it out onsite and online for over $20,000 in cash. Bear has called it a season but we still have Summit this weekend! I know how you all feel about Bear though. Bear is like a second home to me and I know there are a lot of local riders, loyal weekend riders, employees, and fans that practically live at the mountain as well. It’s like a haven from reality; a place where we can forget about everything and focus on the most important things in life, like happiness. I’ll never forget my years as a snowboarder and I’m really happy that Bear Mtn and everyone that makes it what it is will be a part of all my memories. The snow, the good times, the new friends, and the one of a kind snowboarding, all thanks to our friend Bear Mtn. All in all, it was an amazing season and on behalf of the mountain… thanks! Thanks to everyone for making this all possible!

Hey, Don’t Be Sad; Let’s Celebrate!

Well, it looks like we’re coming up on our last couple blogs since today is Bear’s last day of the season. I know it’s a bummer, but look at the season we had; an opening date in October, 12-feet of natural snow, and a park for the history books. Glancing back, it feels like December was like a year ago. There was so much going on with all the events and powder days, it’s hard to think it’s been almost six months since the beginning. There were a couple of storms where we we’re taking waste deep turns! Long story short, we had an amazing season, and now it’s time to celebrate. Let’s make the most of our last day and let’s send Bear off the right way. See you on the deck!! Oh and midweek riding is not out of the question, we’ll see you on Ego Trip and Westridge this week at Summit right?

Snow Summit’s Goods

While Bear Mountain may not be operating midweek, Snow Summit is! With 100% of the mountain still wide open, in addition to the 4-5 inches of fresh fluffy pow Big Bear received on monday, the time is NOW to come up and discover the goods at Snow Summit. Whatever your preference may be, you might be surprised that Snow Summit delivers on all fronts.

For your park rats, Westridge has it all. The jibs, the jumps, and everything in between. Or go check out the Ego Trip Superpark. Huge features meticulously maintained for your shredding pleasure. If you are a Geronimo fan, look no further than Snow Summit’s chair 6 and black diamond runs: The Wall, Olympic, and Off chute. Even if your preference is to just cruise, Snow Summit has 31 trails offering varied terrain and amazing views over the Big Bear Valley.

Bear Mountain Season Passes are valid at Snow Summit. The type of season pass still applies to the Snow Summit offer.

Bear Mountain’s operating hours for this Saturday and Sunday will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Due to business winding down, Bear Mountain will not operate midweek but will be open on weekends! Bear Mountain Season Passes are valid at Snow Summit. The type of season pass still applies to the Snow Summit offer. Snow Summit will be open through at least April 18th and possibly longer with 100% open terrain. Head to Summit today and get in some fresh pow turns! El Nino hasn’t given up yet. It began snowing early this morning with 3 inches of fresh powder so far, and it’s expected to snow several more inches today and possibly up to a foot. With all of this new snow and below average temperatures this week, the snow conditions will be excellent.

Ride The Park AND Ego Trip

Both Mountains are 100% open today with excellent spring conditions! Due to business winding down, Bear Mountain will not operate midweek but will be open on weekends! The snow coverage is still really good with plenty of jibs and snow features to look forward to. With several inches of new snow predicted for tomorrow and below average temperatures this week, the snow conditions at Summit will be excellent. HDHR Qualifier Results

We just wrapped up the HDHR qualifiers about an hour ago. We had a solid turnout of hungry shreds looking to make their way to Hot Dawgs in September. Last year’s winner and local kid Ian Sams showed back up and was able to walk away with third. All the way from the east coast, brothers Dylan and Alex Hereford, came, conquered, and walked away with 1st and 2nd. Dylan was the lucky one taking the gold and getting his free 2010/2011 Bear Mountain season pass. We’re definitely stoked on the three we’re sending to Hot Dawgs this fall; and look forward to seeing these kids represent.

Hot Dawgs & Hand Rails Qualifier today!

Today is the day! All season you have been working hard in stomping those skills, skeezing it out, and bringing your own flava to it. Now its time to show the crowd and judges you have what it takes to represent. The top three competitors will advance to the coveted Hot Dawgs & Hand Rails later this fall and compete among the industry’s best shreds. So do you have what it takes? But no worries spectators, the HD&HR qualifier going down today is only a small taste of the craziness that goes on later this fall. Its sure to be a dope time on the Bear sun deck with DJ Slipmatt and DJ C-Low bumping it all afternoon. In addition we’ll be giving some sick Bear Schwag out, so come up to hang, watch some action go down, enjoy some drinks and SoCal sunshine.
