We have received 8″ to 10″ of fresh snow over night and it’s still coming down! This is the best storm we’ve had all season. It may take a little extra time traveling to the mountains today but it will be more than worth it! Don’t forget your tire chains, they are required on all vehicles except those with 4wd and awd with snow tires on highways 18 and 38. Cold weather has hit Big Bear and we are taking full advantage of these great snowmaking conditions. Our system has been making snow for over 24 hours now and we plan to continue as long as conditions permit. Snowmaking plus the 3-4 inches of fresh snow we received yesterday means more runs and features! We received 1-3 inches of snow last night! While this is not quite enough to open for the winter season its a sure sign of whats time come. The forecast shows highs in the mid-50’s and low-60’s so this winter weather won’t last but it sure is getting us excited for this upcoming season! Typically we open for skiing and snowboarding mid to late November. Wednesday nights snow storm was just a tease of what’s to come this winter. We received 4 inches of snow over night and while it unfortunately is not enough to allow us to open the slopes for the winter could it possibly a sign that winter is coming early? We hope so! We received 12-14 inches of so far and its not done yet! The storm is forecast to last the rest of today and into tomorrow, then clearing up for a fun powdery weekend! Remember that Snow Summit’s final night session of the 2012/13 season will be tomorrow, March 9th. There is no night session tonight. This weekend is also the Transworld TransAM 8th and last stop in the competition before finals! Remember to change your clocks this Sunday for Daylights Savings Time. We’ll be springing forward with new operating hours.
