Ski Comp Today

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

What’s up everyone?! As you all should know by now, there’s going to be a ski comp in a matter of hours. It’s said to start at 1: oo p.m., with practice beginning at noon. If you’ve been by The Scene, you already know it’s going to be a sick contest. There’s some crazy looking features that you wouldn’t expect to see at Bear. From a snowboarder’s perspective, we call them “skier features”. As hard as it is to say, skiers go bigger then snowboarders, so they need bigger features. We give a lot of attention to the new wave of snowboarders, but we still love our skiers. It’s definitely going to be a fun event to watch; it’s always fun to check out something new. We haven’t hosted a ski comp in a while, but we’re stoked to be apart of the sport!

Sunny Weekend On The Snow

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

Clouds threatened to cover the sun today but it looks like the sun wins! This weekend will be mostly sunny and cool keeping the snow in tip-top shape. The Powder Bowl jump was rebuilt this past week and Park Staff mixed up the jibs to keep things fresh, you can also look forward to a rebuild on Central Park run in the near future. If you haven’t had enough park riding after Bear closes at 4:30 then head over to Westridge at Snow Summit for the last night session of the season. College students get $10 off their night session tix too!

Jumping in Big Bear

Friday, March 12th, 2010

As you all know, we’ve had one heck of a year in terms of snow. We already have 10-11 feet of natural snow this season! That’s insane! It’s making for amazing spring time conditions and some really solid jumping. The natural snow makes for perfect building substance. We can make the lips wider and taller, the decks a little longer, and some nice steep landings. I’m out there everyday taking pics, and it’s really fun to watch everyone take advantage of all our sick jumps. I’m starting to see more and more people hit the top one; and a lot of you are really progressing. Gambler has been getting a lot of love as well. Being my favorite jump in the park, it’s exciting to see everyone enjoy it as much as I do. Keep up all the hard work; everyone here is stoked.
