It’s Different in Big Bear

“And another one gone, and another one gone, another one bites the dust.” – Queen We heard that another resort outside of Big Bear closed recently. That’s the second one to close early in the season and when that happened, we were sad about it too. They rely on the little well water that’s available and often times will limit their snowmaking which leads to fewer open trails or even early closure. Good thing we are in Big Bear, it’s different here. One huge difference is the water supply. Water is one of the main ingredients in real snow and []

Game Day at Bear Mountain

Our base depth is 8-24″ on top of that we received 5 inches of new snow in the last 48 hours. It’s going to be a Super Sunday! The competition that featured amateur riders took place earlier today at The Scene. As part of the North American tour, Volcom’s Peanut Butter and Rail Jam brought some friendly competition and great energy for a snowy Saturday on the mountain. That energy will be carried over to a day of riding on Super Bowl Sunday. You can expect sunny skies and mild temperatures so you can get your ride on and still catch []

Chance of Snow Today

We’ve been making real snow all night and there’s a 30% chance that mother nature might bless us with more snow this afternoon. It’s gonna be a good week for the white stuff. CalTrans reports significant delays and closures on Highway 18, so plan your drive accordingly. Always carry snow chains when traveling through mountain areas. Like they say in Cub Scouts, “Always be prepared.” Ticket windows and rentals shops open at 8:30 am. Lift operations will starts at 9 am. The recent storm added to the base, making it 10-20″. After running outside this morning to check the conditions, expect machine-groomed hard []
